The story of Edie Sedgwick is really sad. I have the film Factory Girl on dvd, which is a film based on her life when she got famous, and how Andy Warhol dropped her basically, and then she died after her battle with drink and drugs. The film is really good depiction of fame and how much of a cold hard world it is to get into. I suggest everyone who is interested in fashion, art or the 60’s watches it! However, the film was met with mostly negative reviews, which I think is due to the fact there was a lot of controversy over the events in the film and how much of it is fact and how much is fiction. Also, it paints quite a bad picture of Andy Warhol, who comes across as a very shallow minded person. I hope this part of the film is not so factual….
I still think its a cool movie, and Sienna Miller plays Edie really convincingly.
Edie Sedgwick was the first proper ‘it girl’, famous for just being her… something i’m not completely for, but there is something charismatic and interesting about her. You can watch some really captivating videos of her on youtube. Its her style and the photographs of her that inspire me. She’s also a hell of a lot more interesting than today’s it girls.
Some of Bob Dylans song’s are said to be inspired by her, including Like a Rolling stone. Bob Dylan is said to have been in a brief relationship with Edie and one point.
And here is Sienna Miller playing her in factory girl…
and here is Agyness Deyn looking a lot like her!
