In with the new

Fashion, My photography

Hello again. I am so jealous of everyone going to Glastonbury! I could not stop setting myself up for disappointment this year where Glastonbury tickets were concerned. Firstly I tried to get one when they first went on sale, ignoring the fact our internet connection in Southampton was the slowest ever. I didn’t get a ticket. That was bad enough, but then I decided I was going to give it a shot at the resale. That might have been fine but I quickly realised I couldn’t afford it and sort of half tried to get one, knowing that if I did I would be EXTREMELY poor. I didn’t get one again… which I was sort of glad about. After that I entered a couple of competitions…. it didn’t happen.

Oh well!

I’ve just spent the last of those Topshop vouchers finally ūüôā

I’ve just moved out properly from my house in Southampton. This means I have a ton of crap that I don’t know whether I want or not lying around my room. Still, it’s looking a lot better than it did after I had a little revamp.

Tiger dresses and fashion lusting

Fashion, Fashion photography, My photography

As I write this I am hungry. What shall I eat? I’m trying to cut down on cheese, as I do tend to put it in everything, although I could do worse.¬†Apparently dairy can make you more intelligent, because it has Iodine in it. So that’s good I suppose. I’ll hold on to that fact.

At the moment I’m looking for a full time job, and there doesn’t seem to be any that provide more than an 8 or 16 hour contract a week. Either that or they’re all temporary! Frustration.

Putting the dairy and job stuff aside, here’s some fashion for you! This is one of my favourite dresses from Romwe and my all time favourite shoes from Underground.

The lip stick is from Topshop and the shade is called ‘Arcade’.

I have been lusting after some rings from www.emptycasket.com. Empty casket (if you don’t already know) is an online jewellery store, everything is hand made with a ‘grungey vibe’. Here are some of my favourites….

Rings £18

Necklace £10

Kitty ring £5

Fashion, Fashion photography, My photography

Hey everyone, this week I’ve been in London shooting Shoreditch fashion show¬†ready for it to feature in Religion magazine. The event was a huge success and took place at the Golden Bee in London’s Shoreditch. All the designers that showcased their work were Crystal Mcfarlane, Radhinna, Staple for the cool kids, Lilla Ballazs, Imzy and Joanna Leigh Norton. The event was organised by Wynter Heayes. Sponsors include Electric London and Ten image, lead make up designer – Naomi Lake.

Here are some sneak previews of the photographs I took. If you want to see anymore Religion magazine will be published around the 7th of may ūüôā

A look back and a look forward

Fashion, Fashion photography, Music, My photography

(So this week I’ve been working on several different features for my magazine. I don’t post everything I do on here, only snapshots of parts of my work. I get all my ideas through past and present magazines I have enjoyed reading, plus many different ESTABLISHED photographers. I suppose if someone is¬†rigorously going through my blog that can become a bit confusing and some people might start getting very bizarre Ideas, especially if they’ve got a screw or two lose ūüôā¬†It’s always nice when people take a lot of interest in my blog)

I am really excited about the Glastonbury line up… even though I’m not going for definite. I have got tickets on the re-sale before, and I will again!

Next week I’ll be doing some more shoots around Bristol, and hopefully get some street style shots in there. I’ve also got a few exciting written features lined up for the magazine! I’m really happy with the work I’ve done so far, but now getting a bit panicky about the deadline…

Here are some more pictures I have taken over the last few weeks. I’ve got another shoot lined up next week!

This shoot was all about clashing colours with lots of inspiration from alternative fashion sites. I also wanted it to have a slightly dreamy effect.

This was a beauty/portrait shoot I did outside for a separate feature. It was so cold shooting this!

Thanks for reading, any questions just ask me. No crazies though!

Things I’ve been listening to and looking at

Fashion, Fashion photography, Music

At the moment I’m having a bit of a mental/inspirational blockage with my FMP. I’m sort of in between sorting it all out and desperately trying to find things that inspire me and give me idea’s.

Marcus Ohlsson, a fashion and beauty photographer from Sweden has caught my eye recently. I buy Elle every month, I think they have some of the best editorials, and this month I noticed he had photographed quite a few of them. A lot of his stuff is photographed quite close up which I love, and you can tell he focuses a lot on shape. Here are some of my favourite photographs of his…

I have been so excited about all the new amazing bands at the moment. Over the last few years, I’ve been a bit bored by modern day band music, but recently there has been a surge of new and interesting music.

PeacePeace are from Birmingham, they are indie…. not that there is anything wrong with indie, because its probably what I listen to most but I say indie with caution. ¬†This is because a lot of recent indie music has been kind of crap (in my personal opinion). Peace are really REALLY good though, their debut album is out in just under a week I think, and it’s meant to be amazing. Listen to their cover of ¬†‘1998’ originally by Binary Finary, that track isn’t going to be on the debut (http://www.nme.com/news/peace/69258). It was on some horse racing advert for channel 4.

SPLASHH1

Splashh¬†are from all over, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Listen to ‘All I wanna do’, I am so addicted to this song.

If you haven’t heard of these bands you should definitely give them a listen, they have restored my faith in music! I can’t talk about music anymore because I will go on and on and I don’t want to force all my¬†favorite¬†bands upon you. Hope you found this post interesting, useful, inspiring or just OK.¬†

Christmas and New year

Fashion

Hello all, hope your having a really good Christmas. Here are some of the¬†beautiful presents I¬†received¬†this year…

IMG_4980rwr

Green tea soap, Eton Mess chocolates, Marks and Spencer chocolates, Elie Saab perfume

I recently handed in my proposal for my final major project. The project is based around promoting awareness for women with low self esteem, through fashion. I want to photograph women who have had problems involving self esteem, and show what a positive influence fashion can be, instead of some of the negative influences it has had in the past on young women. Here are just a couple of photographs I took for the proposal…

IMG_4703ed2 IMG_4750strength

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on this! Time goes so fast, and not¬†necessarily when your having fun. More like when you have lot’s to think about.

2013 looks set to be an eventful year as i’ll be graduating from university, saving up to go travelling and god knows where i’ll be living! It’s crazy to think where i’ll be this time next year…

Now, I know it’s just gone present time, but there are still pieces of clothing I want. There are always clothes I want. Here is a quick list of things i’ll probably be buying when I get my loan…

Scenic Painting Print Umbrella Skirt

Skirt, £24.84 Romwe

Ice cream socks, £3.10 Nastygal

I will always want these but can never justify paying £75 for them. American apparel disco pants.

Last but not least I really want to go to Glastonbury. I didn’t get tickets when they went on sale because the internet in my student house is absolutely shocking. I’ll be ready and waiting at my house in Bristol with the much faster internet, when they go on sale in April!

Thanks for reading as always ūüôā

New projects, things to look forward to!

Fashion

Hello! I’m in an excited mood at the moment but also a stressful one… I think its important to have a certain amount of stress in your life otherwise its all pretty mundane.

I’m back at uni and we already have so much work to do. I’m currently working on a 6 week project on street style in London. We have to choose an area of London that’s trendy and interesting, then go and photograph people there. I’m trying to visit Shoreditch this coming Wednesday but I think the weather might let me down. This rain is constant over here in England!

Here are some interesting concepts of different street styles and how its photographed.

Japanese Street Style

Japanese street style

It’s become an interest to everyone, even people that don’t have a specific interest in fashion. The Japanese street style is so unique, and sort of surreal. Pat Lyttle’s¬†book ‘Japanese street style’ is available on Amazon as a paperback.

The Sartorialist

Most people who surf fashion Blogs will have heard of this well known street style photographer. Scott Schuman’s work has also been featured in magazines like GQ and Italian Vogue, along with ad campaigns for DKNY, Gant etc. The way he captures people is really interesting and his collection of images are all so diverse there’s a style for everyone.

Lace top meets leather leggings ‚Äď a couple that couldn‚Äôt be more different but as you know for sure: opposites attract.

We’ll be ‘trick or treating’ in this logo tee!

Zebra Katz has got his eyes on you!

Topshop

If your not already following them on tumblr or facebook then you definitely should do! I’m sure you are… So many well dressed people, so much clothing envy!

I also have a dissertation idea! So far, I want to do a fashion film inspired by Alfred Hitchcocks¬†‘The Birds’.

And I cannot wait for the BBC 2 film ¬†depicting¬†the manipulative nature of Alfred Hitchcock’s relationship with actress Tippi Hedren. Sienna Miller plays Tippi. I’m not sure when its on but it sounds so interesting. The film is said to suggest Hitchcock blackmailed her into having sex with him by threatening her career.

Fraught relationship: A still from the new film; Hitchcock was obsessed with his star

Thanks for reading! I’ll be updating the blog with progress on my projects shortly. As always any thoughts and comments are very welcome.
